Perry is Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television were two appearances in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. She did not pursue acting as a career after reaching the age of adulthood due to her parents being concerned about the adverse impact stress might cause. Perry claimed that she was too timid to perform at the age of 16, but she began performing in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved in New York in search of television roles. Perry was able to land small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homelessness drove her to California for theater roles. The Other Place was performed by her and her mom in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry starred in the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on ABC's show The Family. In 2017, she played her own recurring part on The ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. The actress also portrayed the young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. She was cast in the role despite having a close familial connection to the character.
